The Gary Player Suite was once the golfing legend’s own bedroom, back when he owned the ranch. It’s a spacious, characterful room beneath a vaulted pine ceiling, with a leather wingback bed and a bathroom made for long, slow soaks.

Framed horse-racing prints hang above the bed, a nod to the ranch’s years as a stud farm, while red and gold lamps, purple velvet and a Persian rug keep the room rich and warm. In the bathroom, a whitewashed stone wall screens the rainfall shower from the bath. Take your morning coffee out to the bistro table, where wisteria climbs the railings. One night gets you the bath and a very good sleep. Two gets you a slow breakfast, sunset over the mountains and a little longer soaking in the peace of the Karoo.
