The Simona Suite has the feel of a classic Karoo farmhouse, with sage woodland wallpaper, treasured antiques and a fireplace of its own. Glass doors fold open onto a shaded veranda that looks out over lawns, old trees and the garden.

A pale blue tufted headboard, bird-and-blossom cushions and an antique mahogany chest give the room a gracious, lived-in warmth, while two zebra-print wingbacks pull up to the fire beneath a painting of the Karoo. The ensuite has a freestanding bath with a bamboo tray, a walk-in rainfall shower and double basins under a gilt mirror. One night gets you the fire and a very good sleep. Two gets you the veranda, the long bath and a morning with nowhere to be.
